Seventy-Four FSU Student-Athletes Earn GLIAC All-Academic Spring Accolades
Big Rapids, Mich. - A total of 74 Ferris State University student-athletes from six different spring sports teams have achieved Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Academic and All-Academic Excellence Team kudos for the 2015-16 campaign.
The official announcement of the spring All-Academic teams was made from the league office. Overall, a total of 1,111 student-athletes from the 16 league institutions received recognition in eight different sports, including 562 on the All-Academic Team and another 549 on the All-Academic Excellence list.
The 74 Ferris State student-athletes earning recognition came from the spring sports teams including men's and women's outdoor track and field, softball, men's tennis along with men's and women's golf.
Criteria states the student-athlete must be an active member on the roster at the end of the season, not a freshman or a first year transfer student. All-Academic Teams are comprised of those student-athletes that meet criteria and carry a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0-3.49. Academic Excellence Teams are comprised of student athletes that have a cumulative GPA of 3.50-4.0.
Overall, the Bulldogs finished the 2015-16 campaign with a total of 186 student-athletes claiming GLIAC All-Academic accolades in either the fall, winter or spring seasons. Along with a league-best total of men's ice hockey student-athletes earning Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Scholar-Athlete honors, the Bulldogs had more than 200 student-athletes claim all-academic recognition, helping FSU achieve a department-wide 3.17 cumulative grade point average this year.
