Ferris State Places 52 Student-Athletes On GLIAC Spring All-Academic Teams

Big Rapids, Mich. - A total of six Ferris State University spring athletic programs combined to place 52 student-athletes on the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Academic teams for the spring season as the conference recently unveiled its all-academic and all-academic excellence teams.

The Bulldogs once again ranked among the league's top squads on average with 52 honorees, including 23 all-academic excellence picks and 29 who achieved all-academic recognition.

With the 52 honorees this spring, FSU finished the 2014-15 academic year with a total of 163 student-athletes earning some form of GLIAC All-Academic Team recognition. The Bulldogs had 73 recipients in the fall and 38 in the winter to go with 52 this spring.

Overall, a total of 1,035 student-athletes from the conference's 16-member schools achieved all-academic recognition with 531 on the All-Academic team and 504 on the All-Excellence list.

Criteria states the student-athlete must be an active member on the roster at the end of the season, not a freshman or a first year transfer student. All-Academic Teams are comprised of those student-athletes that meet criteria and carry a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0-3.49. Academic Excellence Teams are comprised of student athletes that have a cumulative GPA of 3.50-4.0. 

Among Ferris State's six spring sports programs eligible for all-academic laurels, the Bulldogs had a total of 19 honorees from the women's track team along with 10 from softball, nine in men's outdoor track, seven in men's golf, five in women's golf and two in men's tennis.

The Bulldog women's track squad led the way with 10 all-academic excellence picks and a FSU-best nine all-academic honorees.
