Ferris State Ranks Among League Leaders With 73 Student-Athletes On GLIAC Fall All-Academic Teams

Big Rapids, Mich. - Six Ferris State University fall athletic programs combined to place 73 student-athletes on the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Academic teams for the fall semester as the conference recently unveiled its all-academic and all-academic excellence teams.

The Bulldogs, who won conference championships in the fall in both football and volleyball, ranked among the league's best with a total of 73 honorees, including 35 all-academic picks and 38 who achieved all-academic excellence recognition.

Overall, a total of 1,129 student-athletes from the conference's 16-member schools achieved all-academic recognition with 589 on the All-Academic team and 540 on the All-Excellence list.

Criteria states the student-athlete must be an active member on the roster at the end of the season, not a freshman or a first year transfer student. All-Academic Teams are comprised of those student-athletes that meet criteria and carry a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0-3.49. Academic Excellence Teams are comprised of student athletes that have a cumulative GPA of 3.50-4.0.

During the recently-completed fall semester, a total of 16 of FSU's 17 varsity programs achieved a cumulative team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. In addition, nine FSU teams had at least one student achieve a perfect 4.0 GPA for the fall term while 16 different teams had at least one student-athlete at 3.9 or higher.

Among Ferris State's six fall sports programs eligible for all-academic laurels, the Bulldogs had a total of 31 honorees from the football team along with 15 from women's soccer, 10 in women's cross country, eight in volleyball, six in men's cross country and three in women's tennis.

The Bulldog football team led the way with 23 all-academic picks while the women's soccer squad had a FSU-best 12 individuals named to the academic all-excellence team.
