Ferris State Places 38 Student-Athletes On GLIAC Winter All-Academic Listing

Big Rapids, Mich. - Four Ferris State University fall athletic programs combined to place 38 student-athletes on the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Academic teams for the winter season as the conference recently unveiled its all-academic and all-academic excellence teams.

Despite having only four winter sports teams in the listing, the Bulldogs ranked among the league's top squads on average with 38 honorees, including 20 all-academic excellence picks and 18 who achieved all-academic recognition.

Overall, a total of 783 student-athletes from the conference's 16-member schools achieved all-academic recognition with 387 on the All-Academic team and 396 on the All-Excellence list.

Criteria states the student-athlete must be an active member on the roster at the end of the season, not a freshman or a first year transfer student. All-Academic Teams are comprised of those student-athletes that meet criteria and carry a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0-3.49. Academic Excellence Teams are comprised of student athletes that have a cumulative GPA of 3.50-4.0.

During the recently-completed fall semester, a total of 16 of FSU's 17 varsity programs achieved a cumulative team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. In addition, nine FSU teams had at least one student achieve a perfect 4.0 GPA for the fall term while 16 different teams had at least one student-athlete at 3.9 or higher.

Among Ferris State's four winter sports programs eligible for all-academic laurels, the Bulldogs had a total of 15 honorees from the women's indoor track team along with 11 from men's indoor track, seven in women's basketball and five in men's basketball.

The Bulldog women's track squad led the way with nine all-academic excellence picks while the men's track team had a FSU-best seven all-academic honorees.
