Athletics Hall Of Fame Looking Ahead To 2013

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University has announced the annual Bulldog Athletics Hall of Fame banquet and induction ceremony will not take place this fall.

The Bulldog Athletics Hall of Fame, which inducted its Charter Class in 2000, was established to honor those former student-athletes and coaches who have distinguished themselves in their sport or honorary members who made truly exceptional contributions to athletics.

Plans are currently underway for the next Hall of Fame induction banquet in 2013 with the event most likely going to an every other year format.  Nominations are currently being accepted for the class of 2013 and an online nomination form is available at www.FerrisStateBulldogs.com.

"Our hall of fame banquet is always such a special event that is enjoyable for the inductees, our alumni and the community," said FSU Athletics Director Perk Weisenburger.  "Being inducted into a Hall of Fame is a unique and special honor and one that our Hall of Fame Committee doesn't necessarily feel has to happen every year.  We look forward to honoring the next class of Bulldog greats in 2013."

FSU most recently inducted its 11th class of honorees in the fall of 2011 and currently 102 individuals have been enshrined by the selection committee, which is comprised of faculty, staff and community members.

Plaques recognizing the achievements of all current Hall of Fame members are on display inside FSU's Ewigleben Sports Complex.

"The Hall of Fame banquet and weekend is one of those classy events that Bulldog fans look forward to as we honor some of our very own former athletes and relive their playing days here at FSU," said Hall of Fame Committee member Bill Scheible.  "It is always a tough job in narrowing down the inductees to a handful of our finest former stars, but its a work of love and passion for the committee and we look forward to the next class coming a year from now."

Former Ferris State Athletics Director and current committee member Dean Davenport believes this fall's break will provide an opportunity to assess and plan for the future.

"We've really caught up over the past decade in terms of inducting many outstanding athletes and coaches with large classes and now that we've caught up some, this is a good time to step back and evaluate our plans," he said.  "We have a chance now to analyze what has been done in the past, research innovative new ideas and continue to build upon what annually has been a great event in the past."
