Ferris State's Zach Sieler Claims GLIAC Honor After Record-Breaking Defensive Performance

Big Rapids, Mich. - For the second time this season, Ferris State University sophomore defensive end Zach Sieler (Pinckney) has earned this week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Defensive Player of the Week honor following a Bulldog victory.

Sieler had a huge day in leading the FSU defense in the Bulldogs' decisive 42-10 league home win over Lake Erie on Saturday (Oct. 22) at FSU's Top Taggart Field. The Bulldog standout tallied 11 total tackles, including eight solo stops, while adding 7.5 tackles for loss (-31 yards) and four sacks (-21 yards) as the Bulldogs secured their 11th winning campaign in the last 14 years. 

Seiler also forced a fumble and recovered a fumble in the triumph. His forced fumble led to linebacker Devonte McGregor's 28-yard scoop and score early in the fourth period to account for the final FSU points. Overall, Seiler's efforts helped the Bulldogs' starting unit limit the Storm to only three points. 

The FSU defense also limited Lake Erie to only 83 yards rushing on 49 attempts (1.7 ypc.) and they forced a pair of turnovers while compiling six sacks in the contest. Seiler's 7.5 tackles for loss broke the Top Taggart Field stadium single-game record.

Presently, Sieler leads the GLIAC and is ninth in the nation to date this year at 2.1 tackles for loss per game. He's also leading the league and ranked eighth nationally in sacks at 1.31 per contest.
Ferris State improved to 6-2 overall this campaign with the victory over Lake Erie.

This week, the Bulldogs wrap up their three-game league homestand with a showdown against Wayne State on Saturday (Oct. 29) at Top Taggart Field. Both squads are ranked among the top 25 teams in the country and the game could have major postseason implications. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. (ET).
