Big Rapids, Mich. - The second-ranked Ferris State University football squad clinched at least a share of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship as the Bulldogs pulled out a 38-28 win over visiting Wayne State on Saturday (Oct. 27) at FSU's Top Taggart Field.

The Bulldogs rallied from a 28-24 third quarter deficit and scored the final two touchdowns of the afternoon to improve to 9-0 overall and 7-0 in the GLIAC.

Junior quarterback Jayru Campbell had another big performance for the Bulldogs as he ran for a game-high 103 yards on 19 carries with two TD's and also completed 17-of-30 throws for 224 yards and three scores. His play helped FSU total 502 yards of offense.

Ferris State got on the board first as Campbell directed a six-play, 81-yard drive and connected with slot Dion Earls on a 22-yard scoring throw only five minutes into the game.

WSU answered less than five minutes later when quarterback Jake AmRhein found Darece Roberson on a 42-yard scoring throw to finish a nine-play, 75-yard drive.

Ferris State took a 10-7 lead at the end of the opening period when Jackson Dieterle converted a 27-yard field goal after a short 41-yard scoring drive.

However, Wayne State surged in front to start the second quarter when James Hill capped a nine-play, 70-yard drive with a one-yard TD run.

The Bulldogs responded quickly when Campbell scored on a 57-yard TD run with 13:31 to play in the half, giving FSU a 17-14 edge.

Wayne State again took the lead when DeOntay Moffett found paydirt on a two-yard scoring run to finish a lengthy 78-yard match, putting WSU up 21-17 late in the half.

Ferris State took the lead, though, just before halftime when Campbell found Earls from three-yards out to make it 24-21 in FSU's favor.

In the second half, the Warriors regained a 28-24 edge as Hill scored for the second time on a three-yard carry with 12:32 to play in the third.

The Bulldogs bounced back four minutes later when Campbell reached the endzone on a 15-yard run, finishing a 77-yard drive that made in 31-28 Bulldogs.

FSU then added the only score of the fourth period when Campbell hooked up with wideout Miles Jones on a eight-yard scoring connection with 12:28 to play to account for the final margin.

The Bulldogs ran for 278 yards and threw for 224 more on the day. Meanwhile, FSU limited WSU to 378 total yards with 116 on the ground and 262 in the air.

Along with Campbell's performance, tailback Marvin Campbell ran for 64 yards on 11 carries and Derrick Portis had 52 yards. Jones caught five balls for 83 yards and Keyondre Craig had cour catches for 53 yards.

Safety Omari McCauley had a team-high 12 tackles for the Bulldogs along with a pass breakup. Both Delon Stephenson and Sam Heyboer had 10 tackles each with Stephenson registering his fifth interception in the last three games. The defensive unit also produced five tackles for loss.
