Third Ferris State Senior Earns NFL Opportunity As Keyondre Craig Joins San Francisco 49ers

Big Rapids, Mich. - A third Ferris State University football standout has earned an opportunity in the National Football League as Bulldog receiver Keyondre Craig (Muskegon) was picked up by the NFL's San Francisco 49ers following the league's annual draft.

The 6-5 Craig agreed to terms as a rookie free agent with the 49ers and will join the squad soon for their mini-camp.

Along with Craig, Bulldog offensive tackle Devon Johnson (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) was picked up as a preferred free agent by the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL on Saturday evening while former FSU receiver Malik Taylor (Flint/Hill-McCloy) was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This past fall, Craig ranked as one of the Bulldogs' leading receivers with 39 catches for 719 yards and six touchdowns as FSU advanced to the NCAA Division II National Championship game. He averaged 18.4 yards per catch in 16 contests and also carried the ball two times for 48 yards in his second year with the Bulldogs.

A Muskegon native, Craig joined the Bulldogs in 2017 after transferring from fellow Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) member Northern Michigan. He became a starter at receiver in his first campaign with the Bulldogs in 2017 and made 34 catches for 510 yards and two scores while garnering All-GLIAC accolades.

In his seasons at FSU, Craig helped the Bulldogs to back-to-back trips to the NCAA Division II Playoffs as FSU reached the national quarterfinals his junior season before making a historic run to the title game in 2018. He had a memorable diving touchdown reception off a tipped ball in the national championship game versus Valdosta State (Ga.) and scored twice in the contest as he also hauled in a game-opening 80-yard touchdown pass for the Bulldogs.

Prior to joining the Bulldogs, he had a highly-successful tenure at Northern Michigan and tallied 878 receiving yards as one of the squad's top targets in 2015.

Ferris State capped off the most successful season in school history by reaching the NCAA Division II National Championship game for the first time this past fall. FSU matched an all-time NCAA record with 15 victories (15-1) and won both the GLIAC and Super Region Three Championships this year under head coach Tony Annese.

Craig now represents the 22nd player unofficially in Bulldog history to join an NFL organization as a free agent. He's now among 10 different FSU standouts who have earned opportunities in the National Football League over the past year as the Bulldogs had a NCAA Division II best seven former players take part in NFL training camps last summer.
