Ferris State Puts Up 62 Points In Winning D2 National Game Of The Week

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally second-ranked Ferris State Bulldogs stayed unbeaten on the year as FSU ran away with a 62-28 triumph over Central Washington in the NCAA Division II Showcase National Game of the Week on Saturday (Sept. 14) night at Tomlinson Stadium in Ellensburg, Wash.

The Bulldogs built a 34-14 third quarter lead before the Wildcats rallied back to pull within a score at 34-28 early in the fourth quarter.

However, Ferris State scored three times within a four-minute span after Central Washington closed the gap to put the game out of reach.

With the win, FSU improved to 2-0 on the year. The victory came on the longest trip in school history for the Bulldogs.

Senior quarterback Jayru Campbell returned to the FSU lineup and completed 17-of-29 throws for 271 yards and three TD's, including a big 72-yard scoring toss to sophomore wideout Xavier Wade after the Wildcats had pulled within six.

Meanwhile, sophomore signal caller Evan Cummins ran for three TD's on 12 carries with 75 yards for the Bulldogs.

Wade had three catches for 110 yards with Sy Barnett catching three passes for 70 yards. Barnett also ran for a 42-yard TD in the victory. Tyler Minor added two late TD runs for the Bulldogs, both of which were over 50 yards, and finished with a team-high 115 yards on two tries.

The Bulldogs racked up 627 yards in the game, including 356 yards rushing on 53 carries.

Central Washington finished with 490 yards of total offense, but the Bulldogs limited the Wildcats to only 21% (3-14) on third down and 0-4 on fourth down. FSU also came up with three turnovers in the win.

The Bulldogs will open GLIAC play on the road at Ashland next Saturday, Sept. 21, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. (ET) in Ashland, Ohio.
