Big Rapids, Mich. - Nationally second-ranked Ferris State University used a strong running attack to overpower the Northern Michigan Wildcats in a 38-10 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) victory to stay unbeaten on Saturday (Sept. 28) in front of a large Homecoming Crowd at Top Taggart Field.

Ferris State improved to 4-0 with the victory as they defeated Northern Michigan for the ninth consecutive season in front of a large Ferris State crowd of 5,412.

The Bulldogs opened the game with a 12-play drive that stalled near midfield, but senior kicker Jackson Dieterle launched a 52-yard field goal that sailed through the uprights and over the student section for a 3-0 Bulldog lead with 9:55 to play in the opening quarter. The score stood until the middle of the second quarter.

With 8:48 on the clock in the second quarter, junior running back Tyler Minor broke free and bolted 14-yards into the end zone for a 10-0 Ferris State lead to cap off a five-play 60-yard drive that took just 1:52 off the clock.

As the second quarter wound to a close, Ferris State picked up the football at Northern Michigan's 34-yard line and cashed in with 36 seconds remaining in the opening half. Senior running back Marvin Campbell rumbled one-yard into the end zone to finish a six-play drive for a 17-0 lead that the Bulldogs took into the half.

Out of the break, the Wildcats drove deep into Bulldog territory, but were stuffed shy of the goal line and settled for a 20-yard field goal by Daniel Riser. It put the Wildcats on the board for the first time, cutting Ferris State's lead to 17-3.

The Bulldogs scored 21-straight points over the next 11:30 of game-time to put the game away, starting when Campbell ran three-yards into the end zone with 11:21 on the clock in the third quarter for his second touchdown of the day and a 24-3 FSU lead.

Less than five minutes later, senior slot receiver Davontae Harrington danced through traffic on a sweep play for a three-yard touchdown that put Ferris State ahead 31-3 with 6:28 to go in the third quarter.

On the first play of the fourth quarter and just nine seconds into it, Minor bolted through the offensive line into the open field and dashed 57-yards, giving FSU a 38-3 advantage.

Northern Michigan got a late score with 5:16 remaining when Isaiah Popp caught a 12-yard touchdown from Ryan Johnson for their first touchdown of the day.

Ferris State rolled up 429 yards of total offense and rushed for 350 yards, as 11 different Bulldogs carried the football for all five of Ferris State's touchdowns on the day. Campbell finished with 15 carries for 85 yards and a pair of scores, while redshirt sophomore quarterback Evan Cummins had 11 carries for 83 yards.
