Ferris State Football Ranked First In Initial NCAA D2 Super Regional Rankings

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University football team has put itself in position to potentially receive a sixth consecutive NCAA Division II Playoff appearance as FSU is #1 this week in the initial NCAA Super Region Three Rankings. The top seven teams at the end of the regular-season will advance to the Division II Playoffs with the top team earning a first-round playoff bye.

The Bulldogs are first with Central Missouri second followed by Indianapolis (#3), Ouachita Baptist (#4) and Harding (#5) in the top five overall.

The second five consists of Northwest Missouri State (#6), Grand Valley State (#7), Missouri Western (#8), Fort Hays State (#9) and Henderson State (#10).

The top four teams at the end of the year will all host at least one home playoff game with the #1 team earning a first-round bye and teams #2, #3 and #4 hosting first-round action. The super region rankings will be unveiled again the next two Monday's before the final NCAA Playoff selections are announced on Sunday, Nov. 17.

The Bulldogs will travel to Michigan Tech on Saturday (Nov. 2) for a 1 p.m. (ET) league contest at Sherman Field in Hougton. With a win, the Bulldogs would clinch at least a share of the GLIAC Championship for the second consecutive year and the fourth time in the past six seasons.

Ferris State has made 10 previous all-time NCAA Playoff appearances, including each of the last five seasons from 2014-18. Prior to the last five years, the Bulldogs had not made the field since 1996.

Four years ago, in 2015, Ferris State recorded its first playoff victory in 19 years with a first-round home triumph over Texas A&M Commerce. In 2016, the Bulldogs advanced to the NCAA Division II National Semifinals for the second-time ever after beating rival GVSU for the Super Region Four Championship. The Bulldogs then made a second-straight trip to the national quarterfinals in 2017 before reaching the D2 National Championship game for the first time in school history a year ago.

FSU is the only GLIAC member school that has reached the playoffs in each of the past five seasons to date and one of only two in all of Division II football to reach the postseason the past five years along with Northwest Missouri State.

Over the past three years, the Bulldogs have won nine NCAA Division II Playoff games while the rest of the GLIAC has combined for just two.
