Ferris State Dominates Competition To Win GLIAC's Helmet Bowl Championship En Route To National Bracket

Big Rapids, Mich. - The 2020 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) football season may not have been played, but the Ferris State Bulldogs still managed to win yet another unofficial league championship.

The Bulldogs were tabbed by the Helmet Bowl as the GLIAC's top choice following a fan vote, earning nearly 56% of the total vote among the nine conference schools. The next closest competitor, Wayne State, received only 15% of the total.

By claiming the league's Helmet Bowl Championship, Ferris State will now move in the competition to the national bracket with an opportunity to claim the Helmet Bowl IV National Championship, which features schools from all levels of competition.

The Helmet Bowl competition is organized by Helmet Tracker. Each college football team competed in their respective conference polls to determine the league champions. Voting in the national championship bracket then determines the Helmet Bowl Champion.

Fans can vote online at HelmetBowl.com. Access is free and does not require a sign-in process. Voters can cast a vote in every active contest on a daily basis until the competition closes. All votes count.

Along with the conference champions, a total of 16 at-large schools are also chosen for the national round. The most active teams on social media get an opportunity to play in the national championship final. Seeding for the national championship bracket is based on four geographic regions and vote totals in the conference bracket play.

The 64-team bracket, which launches Monday (Dec. 7), will pit teams against each other in one-week, single-elimination polling with contests ending with a championship contest between the two remaining teams in early January. The Helmet Bowl IV Champion is slated to be crowned on Monday, Jan. 12.

The Bulldogs, who are a number three national seed, will face NCAA Division I San Diego State in the opening round of the national bracket starting on Monday. Voting opens at 1 p.m. (ET). Fans are encouraged to vote every day and can use multiple devices to support the Bulldogs.
