FSU Men Win Fourth-Straight GLIAC Road Game

Midland, Mich. - The Ferris State men's basketball squad picked up its fourth consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road victory with a 86-73 win over the Northwood Timberwolves on Saturday (Jan. 23) evening at the Bennett Sports Center in Midland, Mich.

The Bulldogs took a narrow five-point lead after a three-pointer near the end of the opening period from junior guard Matt DeHart and then outscored NU 47-39 the rest of the way for the win.

FSU shot 48% (31-65) from the floor for the game and connected on nine-of-20 (45%) three-point tries with a 15-of-18 (83.3%) performance from the free throw stripe.

A balanced Bulldog lineup was led by junior guard Darien Gay with 19 points, six rebounds and five assists.  Junior forward Justin Keenan chipped in with 17 points while both DeHart and senior guard Jon Yeazel tallied 14 points apiece.

NU had all five starters reach double-figure scoring.  Both Lionel Sullivan and Dorian Pierce netted 14 points each while Chris Johnson posted a double-double effort with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.  Finally, Andrew Van DierenDonck added 11 points and Booker Stoudmire totaled 10 points.

The Bulldogs owned a 45-33 rebounding edge and grabbed 14 offensive boards.  They also outscored NU 36-20 in the paint and the FSU reserves finished with 29 points compared to only 11 points from Northwood's bench.

NU was limited to 39.7% (25-63) shooting, but made 10-of-26 (38.5%) three-pointers and 13-of-21 (61.9%) free throws.

Northwood turned the ball over only seven times in the game and had 17 assists with seven blocked shots and four steals compared to FSU's 16 assists, five blocks and five steals to go with 10 miscues.

By virtue of the victory, Ferris notched its eighth-straight season with 10 or more wins as FSU improved to 10-7 overall and 8-4 in the GLIAC.  The Timberwolves fell to 7-9 on the year and are now 4-8 in league action.

FSU returns home for a four-game homestand at Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, beginning with next Thursday's (Jan. 28) league home tilt versus Northern Michigan starting at 8 p.m. (EST).
