FSU Men's Basketball Adds Tyler Dwyer

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball team has received its second official commitment of the spring signing period with the addition today (May 12) of prep forward Tyler Dwyer (Saginaw/Arthur Hill).  The announcement was made by FSU head coach Bill Sall.

The 6-4 Dwyer helped Saginaw Arthur Hill to the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) State Quarterfinals as a prep senior this past season while attaining All-Saginaw Valley League Second Team laurels for the Class A Lumberjacks.

"Tyler's a great kid who comes from a well-renowed program that's had outstanding success," Sall said.  "He's a hard worker and a great rebounder.  We're looking forward to working with him."

Dwyer averaged more than eight points and eight rebounds per contest in his final campaign while teaming with one of the state's top players in USC point guard recruit Maurice Jones.  Arthur Hill defeated Mount Pleasant to claim a regional title before falling to eventual state runner-up Ann Arbor Huron by a 63-58 count in the state quarterfinals (March 23) at Grand Blanc.

The talented rebounder, who's expected to play either the three or four spot at FSU, spent two seasons at Arthur Hill after transferring from Saginaw Heritage High School.  He helped guide the Lumberjacks to the regional semifinals in 2008-09 and the squad claimed a share of the conference crown this past season.  He also played football at Arthur Hill.

"He had a great year this past season and he's also a good student who gets good grades in the classroom," said Sall.

Dwyer, who was coached on the prep level by Greg McMath, plans to major in Pharmacy at Ferris State and joins all-state guard DeMarco Sanders (Flint/Powers) as FSU's current signees to date.

Ferris State concluded the 2009-10 men's basketball campaign with a 16-13 overall record and the Bulldogs placed tied for second (13-9) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division play. In addition, FSU made its 11th GLIAC Tournament appearance this campaign, which was the program's fifth berth in the last six years.

The Bulldogs have claimed two GLIAC North Division Championships and made two NCAA Division II Tournament appearances under Sall's direction, including a trip to the NCAA-II Sweet Sixteen in 2004-05.
