Bulldog Men Drop League Home Tilt

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad suffered a 77-64 setback in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play against Michigan Tech on Sunday (Dec. 18) afternoon at Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids.

The Bulldogs had their six-game winning streak snapped with the setback and the loss was FSU's first in GLIAC play this campaign.  FSU dropped to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
Michigan Tech, which was the preseason divisional favorite, is now 6-4 overall and remains undefeated in the GLIAC with a 4-0 record.

Junior forward Daniel Sutherlin  (Detroit/Renaissance) led the Bulldogs with 14 points followed by senior forward Jerrell Sanders  (Grand Rapids/Creston), who contributed 12 points.

Senior guard Dontae Molden (Detroit/Pershing) chipped in with 11 points while junior guard Kenny Brown (Farmington Hills/Harrison) netted 10 points in the loss.

Michigan Tech led 37-31 at halftime and outscored the Bulldogs 40-33 over the final 20 minutes to earn the road victory.

MTU shot a blistering 70.7% from the floor, including making 15-of-18 (83.3%) field goals over the final 20 minutes of the contest.  Meanwhile, the Bulldogs were held to only 37.3% shooting for the game.

Despite the difference in shooting percentages, FSU managed to keep the score relatively close as the Bulldogs had only four turnovers in the contest compared to MTU's 10 on the day.  Ferris State owned a 16-4 edge in points off miscues.

The Huskies were led by Ali Haidar, who tallied 17 points in the game, which was a game-high, in addition to 12 rebounds. Guards Austin Armga and Ben Stelzer both had 16 and 15 point games, respectively.  Alex Culy added 13 points.

The Huskies scored 38 of their points in the paint compared to Ferris State's 20 inside the lane.  The Bulldogs held a 30-22 rebounding edge and had 11 offensive boards, which helped lead to a 9-2 margin in second chance production.

The Bulldogs will try to get back on track on Monday  (Dec. 19) as they host Northern Michigan in league play with a 7 p.m. (ET) tipoff inside Wink Arena.  The contest represents FSU's final outing prior to the holiday break.
