Ferris State Puts Seven-Game Win Streak On Line At St. Joseph's & Bowling Green This Weekend

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball team will put its seven-game winning streak on the line again this weekend as the Bulldogs will play a pair of non-league contests prior to the holiday break.

Ferris State, which is 7-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action, will square off against regional foe St. Joseph's (Ind.) on Friday (Dec. 19) night in a rescheduled game with tipoff set for 8:30 p.m. (ET) in Rensselaer, Ind.

The Bulldogs then travel to Bowling Green, Ohio, to face the NCAA Division I Bowling Green Falcons on Sunday (Dec. 21) in a 1 p.m. (ET) matchup at the Stroh Center. Sunday's contest will count as a regular-season matchup for the Falcons, but will be an exhibition contest on the Bulldog side and not impact FSU's overall record.

St. Joseph's enters Friday night's matchup with a 3-7 overall record, but the Pumas hold a 3-1 mark on their home floor at the Richard F. Scharf Alumni Fieldhouse. They are coming off a 94-82 home victory over Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) in non-league play on Monday evening.

FSU and SJC have not faced each other since the 2010-11 campaign when FSU recorded a 65-55 home win inside Jim Wink Arena. The Pumas own a 11-3 series' edge over FSU entering Friday's game and beat the Bulldogs 98-82 in 2009 in FSU's last trip to Rensselaer. One of the more memorable series' matchups came when the Bulldogs lost a 74-69 decision to nationally top-ranked Saint Joseph's in the 2006 NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional Tournament Quarterfinals (3/11/06) hosted by the Pumas.

Meanwhile, Bowling Green holds a 6-2 mark to date and is a perfect 4-0 inside the beautiful Stroh Center. The Falcons posted a 67-57 win over Cleveland State in their most recent action at home last Saturday (Dec. 13). Their lone losses this year have come in close fashion to fellow NCAA Division I opponents Western Kentucky and Dayton on the road.

Bowling Green's state of the art Stroh Center was built in 2011 and seats 4,280 fans. The Falcons posted a 12-20 overall record a year ago and were 6-12 in Mid-American (MAC) Conference play. Ferris State is 0-1 all-time versus BGSU with the only other meeting coming in 1982-83 when the Falcons recorded a 64-55 home win.

The contest at Bowling Green on Sunday will represent FSU's third exhibition game of the campaign. FSU fell narrowly to another NCAA Division I opponent in Oakland during preseason action on Nov. 1 in Rochester (Mich.) before returning home to beat fellow West Michigan rival and longtime NCAA Division III power Calvin by a 92-58 count on Nov. 8.

The two games are the final outings for FSU prior to an extended holiday break as the Bulldogs won't return to the floor until resuming league play back in Ohio at Findlay on Jan. 2.

Ferris State is coming off a 82-67 league home win over Tiffin this past Tuesday (Dec. 16) afternoon inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena. The Bulldogs, who are ranked seventh in this week's NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Media Poll, opened the week on Sunday (Dec. 17) with an impressive 115-46 league home win over Ohio Dominican in which FSU broke an all-time GLIAC record for largest victory margin in a conference game with the 69-point triumph.

All of this weekend's action can be heard live on Sunny 97.3 FM and the Bulldog Sports Network online at FerrisStateBulldogs.com starting with the Meijer Pregame Show a half-hour prior to tipoff.
