Ferris State Basketball To Welcome Back Past Legends For 1950's Alumni Reunion Game

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball program will welcome back past legends on Saturday, Jan. 10, as FSU hosts a 1950's Alumni Reunion Game in conjunction with the Bulldogs' Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) home tilt against Walsh at FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

Past Bulldog players from the 1950's era are invited back to campus for the event and will be recognized at halftime. The game tips off at 3 p.m. (ET) following the women's matchup in Big Rapids.

"This will be a tremendous opportunity to honor and recognize a group of individuals who really laid the groundwork for the success Ferris State has enjoyed over the years," said FSU head coach Andy Bronkema. "We're looking forward to having these alumni back on campus and hope the community and fellow Bulldogs come out to help honor their achievements."

All players who competed for the Bulldogs in the 1950's are welcome to attend. In addition to the halftime ceremony, the event will also include an evening social in which alumni members will be able to connect with fellow alumni, current team and staff and others along with the opportunity to see past teammates and reminisce.

Those alumni interested in attending the 50's Alumni Reunion Game should contact head coach Andy Bronkema to obtain more information or RSVP by calling (231) 437-0567 or via email at: AndyBronkema@ferris.edu

The decade of the 1950's laid much of the groundwork for the success Ferris State Basketball achieved in the years to follow under legendary head coach Jim Wink, who took over the program late in the 1950's. Wink went on to lead FSU to 337 wins and five trips to the NAIA National Tournament.

This season, in Bronkema's second year at the helm, the Bulldogs are currently off to a 7-2 start and own a perfect 4-0 mark in GLIAC play. FSU has won its last seven outings in a row heading into Friday night's non-league game at St. Joseph's (Ind.) and is ranked seventh in this week's NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Media Poll.
