Bulldog Men's Basketball Stays Unbeaten With Regional Win Over Lewis

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad stayed unbeaten on the year as the Bulldogs picked up their third consecutive regional triumph with a 84-72 win over Lewis (Ill.) on Saturday (Nov. 19) at FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

FSU improved to 3-0 on the year as the Bulldogs opened up a 40-34 halftime lead and outscored the Flyers 44-38 over the final 20 minutes of action.

Sophomore center Zach Hankins had a career-day for the Bulldogs with a game-high 30 points as he shot 12-of-16 from the floor and went five-of-five at the free throw stripe. He also pulled down eight rebounds and came up with three blocked shots in the victory.

Along with Hankins, FSU received 12 points from junior guard Peter Firlik and 11 by wing Mory Diane. Redshirt freshman guard Greg Williams chipped in with nine points and Markese Mayfield tallied eight points off the bench in the victory.

Ferris State shot 45.5% from the floor and went 20-of-23 (87%) from the free throw stripe in beating Lewis. FSU also sank four-of-21 (19%) three's.

The Flyers had four individuals reach double-figures with both Delaney Blaylock and Frank Vukaj scoring 14 points apiece. Nick Norton added 12 points off the bench and Miles Simelton totaled 11 points in the loss.

Lewis also shot 45% from the floor, but went 0-of-10 from beyond the three-point arc and six-of-eight (75%) at the line.

Ferris State was outrebounded 47-31 for the day, but also came up with nine steals and six blocked shots. FSU had 12 assists.

Meanwhile, Lewis finished with only five steals and two blocks in addition to nine assists. The Flyers aslo had 16 turnovers and FSU outscored Lewis 22-9 in points off turnovers for the day.

The Bulldogs will hit the road as they visit Cedarville (Ohio) on Tuesday (Nov. 22) for a 7:45 p.m. (ET) non-league tilt in Cedarville, Ohio.
