Ferris State Men's Basketball Cruises To GLIAC/GLVC Challenge Victory In Home Opener

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad stayed unbeaten on the year as the Bulldogs rolled to a 75-60 triumph over Quincy (Ill.) in the home opener on Friday (Nov. 10) night inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs opened the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)/Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Challenge by scoring the first 18 points and improved to 3-0 this season with the victory against the Hawks, who reached the NCAA Tournament last season.

Overall, Ferris State led by as many as 24 points in the game while cruising to the victory.

After the 18-0 spurt to open the contest, Quincy battled back in the first half and trimmed the margin to 30-24 at halftime. However, the Bulldogs started quickly in the second frame and ultimately outscored the Hawks 45-36 over the final 20 minutes of action.

Senior guard Drew Cushingberry paced FSU with a game-high 19 points to go with six assists, three rebounds, three blocks and three steals. FSU also got 10 points and nine rebounds with three blocks by junior center Zach Hankins.

Along with those two in double-digits, junior forward Markese Mayfield chipped in with nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds. The trio of senior forward Noah King, senior guard Peter Firlik and sophomore guard DeShaun Thrower all added eight points apiece.

Ferris State shot 39.7% overall and went eight-of-31 (25.8%) from three-point range along with 13-of-17 (76.5%) at the line.

On the glass, FSU owned a 45-42 edge and pulled down 13 offensive rebounds, which led to a 17-9 margin in second chance production.

Quincy finished shooting at a 37.5% clip and made 10-of-21 (47.6%) three's in addition to two-of-nine (22.2%) free throws.

The Hawks were paced by Ryan Briscoe's team-best 16 points with Marcus Hinton adding 11 points.

FSU finished with 25 assists, including six frmo Cushingberry, to go with seven blocks and seven steals. The Hawks netted 13 assists, three blocks and a steal. FSU also outscored Quincy 38-24 in the paint and 13-6 in points off turnovers.

Ferris State will wrap up the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge on Saturday (Nov. 11) as the Bulldogs host Missouri-St. Louis starting at 5:30 p.m. (ET) inside Wink Arena. The Tritons beat Grand Valley State 64-62 in the second game on Friday in the tournament.
