#5 Ferris State Rolls Past Ashland In GLIAC Showdown To Stay Perfect

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally fifth-ranked Ferris State University men's basketball squad stayed unbeaten on the year as the Bulldogs used a big second half to roll past Ashland 91-57 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Saturday (Dec. 2) evening inside Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs outscored the visiting Eagles 55-29 over the final 20 minutes of play after grabbing an eight-point halftime lead en route to improving to 10-0 on the year and 2-0 in GLIAC play.

Ferris State shot 61.3% from the floor in the second half and turned the ball over only three times in the game while forcing 20 Ashland mistakes. FSU outscored the Eagles 25-3 in points off turnovers for the night.

Senior guard Drew Cushingberry paced the Bulldogs with a game-high 22 points and added five assists with senior forward Noah King totaling 16 points and hitting four three's in the triumph.

The Bulldogs also got 11 points from senior forward TyQuone Greer in addition to 10 points and 11 rebounds from junior center Zach Hankins.

Ashland grabbed the early lead before Ferris State responded and took the halftime edge. FSU led by as many as 34 points in the second half in racing to the victory in the game, which was a rematch of last year's GLIAC Tournament Championship game won by the Bulldogs inside Wink Arena.

The Eagles were led by senior forward Wendell Davis, who notched 20 points. Drew Noble added 16 points in the setback as the Eagles fell to 5-3 overall and 0-2 in the GLIAC.

Overall, Ferris State shot 54% for the night and made 12-of-26 (46.2%) three's along with 11-of-12 (91.7%) free throws. AU hit on 41.5% of its field goals and finished shooting nine-of-24 (37.5%) from long range and four-of-six (66.7%) at the line.

The Bulldogs dished out 25 assists in the game and came up with 10 steals along with six blocked shots in comparison to AU's 17 assists, two blocks and a steal. The Eagles did own a slim 33-28 edge on the glass, but were outscored 9-2 in second chance points despite grabbing 10 offensive boards to only six for Ferris State.

Along with placing three starters in double-figure scoring, the Bulldogs also got 31 points off the bench to only five for Ashland.

The victory capped off an eight-game homestand for the Bulldogs, who will now hit the road for its five games away from home. FSU visits Northwood on Thursday, Dec. 7, for an 8 p.m. (ET) league game before traveling to Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, Dec. 9, for a 6 p.m. (ET) GLIAC encounter.
