PREVIEW: Ferris State Basketball Teams Head To Allendale To Face Archrival Grand Valley State

Big Rapids, Mich.- Both the Ferris State University men's and women's basketball teams will be in action this Saturday (Jan. 19) night as they hit the road to take on Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) archrival Grand Valley State in Allendale.

On Saturday, the women's team will tipoff first at 6 p.m. (ET) with the men's game to follow at 8 p.m. (ET) inside GVSU's Fieldhouse Arena. Both games will be carried live by local flagship station Sunny 97.3 FM and the Bulldog Sports Network online at FerrisStateBulldogs.com.

The nationally fifth-ranked Bulldog men's basketball team is coming off a 92-78 victory over first-year GLIAC opponent Purdue Northwest in the first-ever series' matchup on Thursday night (Jan. 18) in Hammond, Ind. FSU has currently won its last seven games in a row.

With Thursday's win, the Bulldogs improved to 19-1 overall on the season and 9-1 in GLIAC conference play. The Bulldogs also continued their impressive stat on the season of having the most wins of any team in Division II basketball.

The Lakers, meanwhile, sit at 10-8 on the season and are 5-5 in GLIAC play, which ranks fifth overall in the league.

Overall, the Bulldogs are currently on a two-game winning streak against the Lakers. The last time the Lakers defeated the Bulldogs was back in the 2015-16 campaign in Allendale (Feb. 25) in a 78-69 victory.

The Ferris State women are coming off an impressive 94-68 victory over Purdue Northwest on Thursday night.

The win marked the Bulldog women's squad's second-straight victory. They are currently 10-8 following the win and also improved to 4-6 in conference play.

Saturday's matchup will be against the 15-3 Lakers, who currently reside in first place in the GLIAC North Division standings and second overall in the conference.

Last season, the women lost both matchups against the rival Lakers and will be seeking their first series' win in the last seven matchups.

The last time the Ferris State women's team defeated the Lakers was back in 2013-14 season when FSU pulled out a 59-56 triumph inside Jim Wink Arena.

The Ferris State men's team is 5-1 on the road this season thus far and the Ferris State women are 3-4 away from home.

Following Saturday night's twinbill in Allendale, both FSU squads return home for a a three-game homestand starting with a pivotal matchup versus Lake Superior State on Saturday, Jan. 27, inside Wink Arena.
