Big Homestand To Wrap Up Regular-Season For Ferris State Basketball Squads This Week

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's basketball squads return home to host their final two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) outings this week inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs will host Purdue Northwest for the first time on Thursday (Feb. 22) night starting with the men's game at 5:30 p.m. (ET) followed by the women's contest at 7:30 p.m. (ET).

Then, on Saturday, FSU entertains rival Grand Valley State in the regular-season finale with the men playing first at 1 p.m. (ET) and the women wrapping up the homestand at 3 p.m. (ET). Saturday will be Senior Day with the Bulldogs slated to honor the respective men's and women's seniors between games.

Saturday's game also will be part of a "Red Out The Wink & Rink" effort to promote Healthy Heart Awareness in conjunction with the FSU Sports Communication program and the Sports Careers RSO. Proceeds from the event go to support the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Unit of Spectrum Health in Big Rapids. Fans are encouraged to wear red as part of a home tripleheader with Bulldog Hockey playing host to Lake Superior State the same evening inside the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

Both Ferris State teams are coming off a four-game road swing in the GLIAC and will play their first home contests since early February.

This past weekend, the third-ranked Bulldog men's squad captured a second-straight GLIAC Regular Season Championship with back-to-back wins over Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan in the Upper Peninsula. FSU has currently won its last 15 games in a row and is a nation-leading 27-1 overall and 17-1 in the GLIAC.

Meanwhile, the FSU women's team is playing for its first berth in the conference tournament since 2013. FSU is seventh overall in the league standings with the top eight teams at the end of the year earning a berth in the GLIAC Tournament. The Bulldogs hold a 13-13 overall record to date this campaign, which ranks as the program's most wins since 2013.

Earlier this year, both Ferris State teams beat Purdue Northwest on the road in Indiana before earning a split versus GVSU in Allendale where the men's squad beat the Lakers 87-81 in a tightly-contested game.

Along with being third in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) D2 National Poll last week, FSU was also second in the Division II Sports Information Directors (D2SIDA) Rankings and currently ranks as the #1 team in the Midwest Region. The Bulldogs have clinched the number one seed for the GLIAC Tournament and will host a quarterfinal-round game next Wednesday (Feb. 28) evening in Big Rapids.
