Ferris State's Andy Bronkema Chosen As 2018 Hoopdirt.com Division II National Coach Of The Year

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University men's basketball head coach Andy Bronkema has added another prestigious award to his collection following FSU's national championship season as he was tabbed Thursday as the 2018 Hoopdirt.com Division II National Coach of the Year presented by Just Play Solutions.

Bronkema qualified for the award by being named earlier this year as the Hoopdirt.com/Just Play Solutions Coach of the Week during week two of the 2017-18 campaign. It marks the fourth source to name him the National Coach of the Year this season as he's been a consensus selection by every organization.

This year, Bronkema guided Ferris State to the school's first NCAA Division II National Championship.

Overall, Bronkema has guided Ferris State to four consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament titles and four NCAA tournament appearances. Over five seasons under Bronkema, the Bulldogs have a 123-41 won-lost record, a winning percentage of .750.

This year, the Bulldogs matched the all-time NCAA Division II record of 38 wins and closed the year by winning their final 26 games en route to the national championship. FSU also won its second consecutive GLIAC title, fourth-straight conference tournament championship and won the Midwest Regional title.

Bronkema has been chosen this year as the National Coach of the Year previously by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, Division II Bulletin and the Basketball Times. He also earned GLIAC Coach of the Year honors for the second-straight campaign and was named the NABC Midwest Region Coach of the Year as well.

Coach Bronkema led Ferris State to a then program best 28-5 record in the 2016-17 season, and proceeded to shatter that this year, winning 10 more games than the previous season. After falling in the Round of 32 last year, the Bulldogs were able to go all the way this year, winning the program's first-ever championship and tying the NCAA DII single-season wins record with 38.
