Late Basket Lifts #13 Ferris State To Win As Bulldogs Cap West Virginia Trip Unbeaten

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad capped off a perfect weekend with a close 76-74 triumph over Alderson-Broaddus in regional action on the road Sunday (Nov. 11) in West Virginia.

FSU, which beat Davis & Elkins 89-70 to open the trip on Saturday, scored the game-winner in the closing seconds on a layup from sophomore Jaylin McFadden following a steal from junior guard D'angelo Hughes and then held on as a potential try came up empty for the Battlers.

Ferris State improved to 3-1 by winning the two contests in the GLIAC/GMAC Crossover Challenge.

Hughes led the way for the Bulldogs with a team-high 18 points while FSU also got 14 points from junior post Cole Walker along with 13 by junior guard Greg Williams. Senior forward Markese Mayfield chipped in with nine points and joined Walker for the team lead with seven rebounds. Freshman Mason Pline added seven points off the bench.

Ferris State hit on 43.5% of its field goals and went five-of-19 (26.3%) from three-point range in addition to 17-of-26 (65.4%) at the line.

The Bulldogs were outrebounded 42-31, but forced 23 turnovers and came up with 15 steals in the triumph.

Alderson-Broaddus shot 43.9% and made nine-of-25 (36%) three's in addition to 15-of-21 (71.4%) free throws. The Battlers were led by Brandon Simmons with 14 points and Bryan Polance, who totaled 13 points.

Pline registered four steals and McFadden had three in the victory. Hughes dished out a squad-high three assists and tallied two steals for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State led by as many as 14 points early in the second half before Alderson-Broaddus rallied and eventually took a six-point lead with 5:44 to play.

The Bulldogs owned a 36-26 edge inside the paint and totaled 22 points off turnovers along with 12 on the break in the win.

Ferris State returns to Michigan to face Hillsdale in another regional matchup on the road Thursday, Nov. 15, starting at 7 p.m. (ET) in Hillsdale.
