Ferris State Basketball Scores Big Regional Road Victory At Hillsdale

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 13th-ranked Ferris State University men's basketball squad scored a big 72-67 regional road win over the Hillsdale Chargers on Thursday (Nov. 15) night in Hillsdale.

The Bulldogs opened up a double-digit first half lead in a battle of returning national tournament qualifiers and held on down the stretch to earn the victory and improve to 4-1 overall this season.

Ferris State led 37-24 at halftime, but the previously unbeaten Chargers eventually tied the game up in the second half with five minutes left to play. However, FSU closed the game by scoring 11 of the final 17 points to earn the triumph.

Senior forward Markese Mayfield tallied a team-high tying 12 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs with sophomore wing Jaylin McFadden adding 12 points off the bech. FSU also got 10 points from junior guard D'angelo Hughes along with nine points from senior center Taylor Adway and seven by senior guard DeShaun Thrower, who saw his first regular-season action of the season.

Ferris State shot 47% from the floor and went nine-of-22 (41%) from three-point range along with five-of-12 (42%) at the line.

The Bulldogs managed to battle a big Hillsdale lineup on the boards with both teams garnering 34 rebounds and FSU also overcame 14 turnovers to claim their third-straight regional victory.

Four Hillsdale starters scored in double-digits with Dylan Lowry notching a game-high 15 points. Both Nate Neveau and Nick Czarnowski added 13 points each while Davis Larson chipped in 11 points.

The Chargers shot 43% overall, but were limited to only a four-of-19 (21.1%) long range effort. HC went 19-of-21 (90.5%) at the line.

Ferris State will return back to Big Rapids to host Fanshawe (Ontario) in its regular-season home opener on Saturday (Nov. 17) night starting at 6 p.m. (ET) inside Wink Arena. FSU will officially unveil its 2018 NCAA Division II National Championship banner just before the opening tip.
