Ferris State Drops Close League-Opening Tilt At Wayne State In Thursday Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad took host Wayne State to the wire on Thursday (Nov. 29) before falling 90-89 in its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener at the Matthaei Complex in Detroit.

The visiting Bulldogs trailed by a single point, 44-43, at halftime and could not pull out the road win over the Warriors in the first league game for both teams.

Ferris State got 16 points from junior wing Greg Williams along with 15 by sophomore Jaylin McFadden and 12 from junior guard D'angelo Hughes in the starting lineup. Junior center Cole Walker chipped in 13 points and sophomore Armani Tinsley added 12 points off the bench as FSU fell to 5-4 overall.

FSU shot 43% overall and made seven-of-21 (33.3%) three's in addition to 22-of-31 (71%) free throws.

However, Wayne State hit on 51% of its field goals and finished six-of-10 (60%) from long range in addition to 18-of-25 (72%) at the line.

The Warriors got a game-high 23 points each from guards Karim Murray and Darian Owens-White while Latin Davis scored 17 points, Xavier Cochran added 11 points and Javon Henderson totaled 10 points off the bench.

Wayne State overcame 16 turnovers in the game and held a slim 42-41 rebounding margin for the night.

The Bulldogs will visit Ashland on Saturday (Dec. 1) for a 3 p.m. (ET) conference tilt inside AU's Kates Gymnasium in Ashland, Ohio.
