Men's Basketball Suffers Close League Road Setback At Ashland

Ashland, Ohio - The Ferris State University men's basketball team charged late, but fell to the Ashland Eagles 91-88 at Kates Gymnasium in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Saturday (Dec. 1).

Ferris State junior guard D'Angelo Hughes led the way for Ferris State with 20 points on 9-18 shooting for the day as four Bulldogs finished in double figures. Junior forward Jaylin McFadden added 15 points and six rebounds, while senior forward Markese Mayfield had 10 points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs.

The Eagles took a six-point lead into the break as they shot 58.6 percent from the floor, holding the Bulldogs to 46.9 percent.

In the second half, the Bulldogs cut the lead in half but could finish no closer as a Hughes three-ball at the horn fell off the mark for Ferris State.

Ashalnd's Drew Noble lead the way for the Eagles on 33 points on 10-18 shooting. Ben Haraway had 18 points, while Rodrick Caldwell finished with 17. AU's Aaron Thompson chipped in 12 points and 14 rebounds. 

Ferris State won the battle on the glass 33-29, and points off the bench 24-6, as well as points in the paint 48-44 and second chance points 15-9.

The Eagles shot 58.2 percent from the field . and made 91.3 percent of their free throws (21-23) while the Bulldogs shot just 70 percent from the line (7-10).

The Bulldogs return home to take on the Northwood Timberwolves in GLIAC play on Thursday (Dec. 6) at Jim Wink Arena at 7:30 pm EST.
