Ferris State Stretches Home Win Streak To 32-Straight Games With Dominating Win

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad stretched its regular-season home court winning streak to 32 consecutive games with a dominating 116-83 win over Olivet on Monday (Dec. 17) evening inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs won their eighth game of the year and had six players score in double-figures en route to the win while dishing out a remarkable 34 assists in the victory.

Ferris State built a 65-35 halftime lead after knocking down 11 three's and shooting 64% overall in the opening 20 minutes of action and cruised to the win while outscoring the Comets 51-48 in the final frame.

The Bulldogs got a team-high 20 points from senior forward Markese Mayfield, who went six-of-seven from the floor and also grabbed six rebounds with four assists. The balanced effort also included 19 points by junior guard D'Angleo Hughes in addition to his seven assists and six rebounds.

Senior guard and two-sport standout DeShaun Thrower, who started at safety less than 48 hours earlier for the Bulldog football team in the NCAA Division II National Championship game, returned to the floor and tallied 18 points with eight assists and two steals while knocking down seven-of-12 shots and three-of-six three's in his first game in three weeks.

Along with those three, both junior forward Cole Walker and junior guard Greg Williams registered 15 points apiece while sophomore Jaylin McFadden totaled 13 points. FSU also got eight points each off the bench from senior center Andrew Meacham and sophomore Michael Peterson, who added a game-high nine rebounds in 21 minutes.

Ferris State finished shooting 59% for the night and went 14-of-29 (48.3%) from long range in addition to 22-of-29 (75.9%) at the free throw line.

While the Bulldogs had 19 turnovers in the up-tempo contest, they outrebounded Olivet 46-32 and finished with 10 steals and two blocks. FSU outscored the Comets 48-34 inside the paint and 29-15 in points off turnovers along with 32-12 on the break.

Olivet was paced by Trevor Manuel, who finished with a game-high 27 points, but also had five turnovers. Chase Brocker added 13 points off the bench and Dee Roberts finished with 11 points.

Overall, the Comets were held to 42% shooting, including only 35% in the opening half. They went seven-of-24 (29.2%) from beyond the arc and were 18-of-27 (66.7%) at the line. Olivet totaled 16 turnovers and netted 17 assists along with five steals and a block.

With the win, FSU improved to 8-5 overall this season and has now won three-straight games.

The Bulldogs will host Lambton (Ontario) on Wednesday (Dec. 19) in their final game before the holiday break. Tipoff is set for 12 p.m. (ET) as part of a special event featuring students from Big Rapids Public Schools for the matinee contest inside Wink Arena.
