Ferris State Puts On Show For Young Fans In Decisive Home Court Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad put on a show for young fans on Wednesday (Dec. 19) as the Bulldogs rolled past visiting Lambton (Ontario) by a 121-68 score in a special "Kids Day" game inside Jim Wink Arena.

FSU welcomed elementary and middle school students from Big Rapids Public Schools for the matinee game and tallied 68 first-half points in improving to 9-5 overall this year.

The Bulldogs played eight players and all eight nearly scored in double figures as the squad shot a blistering 60% from the floor and knocked down 18 three's in the triumph over the Candian team.

Ferris State opened up a 68-35 halftime edge while shooting 62% from the floor and 67% (10-15) from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes of action. The pace continued early in the second half with FSU eventually outscoring the Lions 53-33 over the final 20 minutes.

Junior guard Greg Williams paced the Bulldogs with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds in a double-double effort while adding five assists. FSU also got 22 points and six assists by senior guard DeShaun Thrower in addition to 21 points, eight rebounds, three blocks, two steals and two assists from senior forward Markese Mayfield.

Along with those three individuals, senior forward Andrew Meacham tallied 14 points and made four three's with both sophomore forward Jaylin McFadden and sophomore Michael Peterson adding 11 points each. Juniors Cole Walker and D'angelo Hughes nearly missed double-digits with nine points apiece.

Ferris State limited the Lions to only 33% shooting for the game with the Lions going 13-of-38 (34.2%) from long range compared to FSU's 18-of-32 (56.3%) showing. The Bulldogs were nine-of-11 (81.8%) at the line in comparison to Lambton's seven-of-nine (77.8%) finish.

On the glass, Ferris State owned a 52-32 advantage and the Bulldogs also forced 14 turnovers while outscoring Lambton 22-9 in points off the miscues. FSU finished with nine steals as a result and added six blocks.

Finally, the Bulldogs also distributed the ball well again with 34 assists for the second consecutive contest, including six from both Thrower and Hughes alon gwith five by Williams.

Lambton was led in scoring by Jason Watts, who finished with 20 points, and Deiondre Reid, who managed to score 14 points.

The victory was Ferris State's fourth in a row this year and stretched FSU's home court winning streak to 33-straight games dating back to the 2016-17 season at Wink Arena.

Ferris State will return from the holiday break on Saturday, Dec. 29, when the Bulldogs host East-West University with tipoff for the non-league tilt set for 3 p.m. (ET).
