Ferris State's DeShaun Thrower Named GLIAC North Division Player Of The Week

Big Rapids, Mich. - For the first time this season, Ferris State University senior guard DeShaun Thrower (Muskegon) has been tabbed as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week.

Thrower averaged a team-leading 16.7 points during the Bulldogs' three-game holiday stretch after Christmas. He shot 43 percent from the floor and made seven-of-16 (44 percent) three's along with nine-of-11 (82 percent) free throws as the Bulldogs posted a 2-1 mark.

The two-sport standout opened the stretch with 14 points, three assists and three steals in a decisive 101-73 triumph on Dec. 29 over East-West University before coming back to score a team-best 23 points with five assists, three steals and two rebounds in FSU's 86-79 league road win over rival Grand Valley State on Thursday (Jan. 3).

He then finished the weekend with 13 points to go with four assists, two boards and a steal in the Bulldogs' 87-72 setback to Davenport on Saturday (Jan. 5) at Wink Arena.

Overall, Thrower tallied 50 points, 12 assists, seven steals and six rebounds in the three games after returning full-time to the team following his run as the Bulldogs' starting safety in football as FSU reached the D2 National Championship Game in December.

Earlier this fall, Thrower was named the GLIAC Football Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts on the gridiron and has also been a conference special teams player of the week honoree in his collegiate career.

The Bulldogs will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Michigan's Upper Peninsula for two league road games. FSU first visits Michigan Tech on Thursday (Jan. 10) for a 7:30 p.m. (ET) league tilt in Houghton before facing Northern Michigan on Saturday (Jan. 12) at 3 p.m. (ET) in Marquette.
