Ferris State Men's Basketball Rolls Past Purdue Northwest In High-Scoring Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University men's basketball team picked up its second consecutive victory with a 99-77 win in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play over the Purdue Northwest Pride on Thursday (Jan. 17) night at Jim Wink Arena.

Ferris State built a 49-37 halftime lead and tallied 50 points in the second half while building a lead as large as 31 points in the victory.

With the win, FSU remained a game out of first place in the GLIAC North Division standings and will square off the divisional leader in Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday in Big Rapids.

All five Bulldog starters finished with 12 or more points while one off the bench made it to double figures, led by Ferris State senior guard DeShaun Thrower, who finished with 18 points, six rebounds and six assists. The Bulldogs also got 15 points from sophomore Jaylin McFadden along with 13 points apiece from senior forward Markese Mayfield and junior guard Greg Williams with junior center Cole Walker adding 12 points.

Off the bench, sophomore guard Armani Tinsley sunk three three-pointers and scored 11 points while senior forward Taylor Adway led the way with seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs got out to an 18-6 lead in the first half and never looked back, outscoring the pride by 12 in the first half and 10 in the second.

On the glass, the Bulldogs out-rebounded Purdue Northwest 53-44 as every Bulldog that played had at least two boards. Ferris State had 17 steals to Purdue Northwest's 11 in the outing.

The Bulldogs were solid at the charity stripe, hitting 19 times for an 86.4 percent conversion rate.

The Pride were led in scoring by Dean Tate, who had 15 points while Anthony Barnard picked up a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Bulldogs held the pride to 37.2 percent shooting from the field and 26.7 from beyond the arc. FSU in turn hit 12 three-pointers and shot 40 percent from beyond the arc. A total of 12 Bulldogs scored at least a point as FSU shot 44 percent overall from the floor.

FSU also dished out 30 assists and totaled 17 steals with 13 blocked shots in the victory.

Ferris State moved to 13-7 on the year and 5-4 in GLIAC play while dropping Purdue Northwest to 2-7 in league play.

The Bulldogs are back in action versus league newcomer and division leader Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday (Jan. 19) with tipoff set for 3 p.m. (ET) at Wink Arena.
