Ferris State Rolls Past Saginaw Valley State On Road To Stay Atop GLIAC

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad kept its impressive play going as the Bulldogs went on the road and secured a decisive 92-70 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road win over Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (Jan. 31) night at O'Neill Arena in University Center.

Ferris State opened up a 42-34 halftime margin and outscored SVSU 50-36 over the final 20 minutes to notch its fifth-straight win and hold onto first place in the GLIAC North Division standings.

Ferris State forced 21 turnovers in the win and knocked down 10 three's while getting 37 points off the bench en route to the win.

The Bulldogs received a team-high 18 points along with six rebounds and five steals from senior forward Markese Mayfield to go with 13 points from freshman forward Mason Pline. Both junior center Cole Walker and senior guard DeShaun Thrower added 12 points apiece in the balanced effort.

The Cardinals got a game-high 20 points from DJ Hoskins in addition to 18 points from Myles Belyeu and 11 by James Toohey.

Along with forcing 21 turnovers, the Bulldogs had only five of their own and outscored SVSU 20-0 in points off turnovers, which also helped lead to a 17-9 edge in fast break production.

Overall, the Bulldogs shot 44% from the floor, including 51.6% for the second half of action. FSU went 10-of-32 (31.8%) from three-point range and 18-of-23 (78%) at the line.

The Cardinals finished shooting 34% from the field and hit six-of-23 (26.1%) from long range in addition to 22-of-27 (81.5%) free throws.

With the win, the Bulldogs are now 16-7 overall and 8-4 in the GLIAC. SVSU fell to 7-13 overall and 3-9 in conference play.

Ferris State will next visit Northwood on Saturday (Feb. 2) for a 6 p.m. (ET) league tilt in Midland.
