Northwood Stops Ferris State Winning Streak In High-Scoring GLIAC Contest

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad battled to the wire, but came up on the short end of a 90-84 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road decision against the Northwood Timberwolves on Saturday (Feb. 2) evening at Riepema Arena in Midland.

The Bulldogs, who had won five consecutive games and were coming off an impressive road triumph at Saginaw Valley State, fell behind 39-35 in the first half and could not overcome NU in the final 20 minutes.

On its home floor, Northwood took advantage of 17 Bulldog turnovers and went nine-of-19 (47%) from behind the three-point line and 23-of-29 (79.3%) at the charity stripe to pull out the victory.

Junior guard D'angelo Hughes scored a team-high 16 points off the bench for the Bulldogs while both senior guard DeShaun Thrower and junior center Cole Walker added 12 points each. Meanwhile, junior guard Greg Williams chipped in 10 points as did sophomore forward Jaylin McFadden.

Northwood got a game-high 18 points from Trey McBride along with 16 points from freshman guard Ja'Kavien Lewis and 15 from Alec Marty. Big man Bruno Solomun added 14 points off the bench and center David Jelinek contributed 13 points in the win.

Ferris State shot 49% overall from the floor, but was only four-of-18 (22.2%) from long range and 10-of-13 (76.9%) at the free throw line where NU had 16 more attempts. FSU did own a 43-36 rebounding edge and pulled down 13 offensive caroms.

In addition to its strong shooting performance from the outside and at the line, NU also shot 43.3% overall from the floor and had only 10 turnovers on the night. Northwood finished with nine steals and four blocked shots in comparison to FSU's five steals and four blocks.

The Bulldogs fell to 16-8 overall with the loss and are now 8-5 in the GLIAC while NU improved to 10-11 overall and 7-6 in conference action.

Ferris State returns home to open a four-game homestand on Thursday, Feb. 7, inside Jim Wink Arena as the Bulldogs host nationally-ranked Ashland in

the D2 Showcase National Game of the Week on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app. It will represent the first-ever live national TV broadcast from Wink Arena

with tipoff set for approximately 7:35 p.m. (ET). Fans are encouraged to wear white and pack Wink for the broadcast to be shown across the country.
