Ferris State Scores Big Home Court Win To Move Back To Top Of GLIAC North Standings

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball team made key shots late to push past the Northern Michigan Wildcats 78-67 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play inside Wink Arena on Thursday (Feb. 14) night.

With the win, the Bulldogs moved back into a tie for first place atop the GLIAC North Division standings.

Ferris State senior forward Markese Mayfield shot 70% from the floor and led the Bulldogs with 15 points to go with seven rebounds while junior forward Cole Walker picked up 12 points and eight boards.

The Bulldogs dominated the glass 45-30, led by sophomore forward Jaylin McFadden's 12. McFadden also doled out a game-high seven assists.

The game went to the half with the Bulldogs ahead 33-30. The Bulldogs shot only 36.1 percent in the opening half, but turned it around as they pulled away late in the second, shooting 55.2 percent in the second frame for a double-digit victory.

Defensively, the Bulldogs held NMU to 38.2 percent shooting from the field. The Wildcats struggled at the line, going 63.6 percent shooting from the charity stripe while the Bulldogs clicked at 80 percent.

The Bulldogs flexed their depth off the bench, doubling up the Wildcats 28-14 in reserve scoring, and dominated the paint 34-12 over NMU. Ferris State freshman forward Mason Pline had seven points off the bench to lead the Bulldog reinforcements.

Northern Michigan's Naba Echols led the Wildcats and all scorers with 26 points, backed up by Isaiah Johnson who finished with 15 for NMU.

The Bulldogs improved to 18-9 overall with the win and 10-6 in GLIAC action.

Ferris State hosts the Michigan Tech Huskies on Saturday (Feb. 16) at Wink Arena on Senior Day with tipoff slated for 3 p.m. (ET) inside Wink Arena.
