Ferris State Basketball Teams Visit LSSU For Regular-Season Finales Thursday

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's basketball squads will close out regular-season action this Thursday (Feb. 28) as the Bulldogs venture to Sault Ste. Marie to face Lake Superior State in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The Bulldogs will face the Lakers in the regular-season finales for both teams with the women's game set for a 5:30 p.m. (ET) tipoff at Bud Cooper Gymnasium followed by the men's game at approximately 7:30 p.m. (ET).

Both games will be aired live on local flagship station Sunny 97.3 FM and the Bulldog Sports Network with pregame coverage beginning at 5 p.m. (ET) on Thursday. Live internet statistics and a live video webcast will also be offered by LSSU with complete coverage links available at FerrisStateBulldogs.com.

The Ferris State men's squad enters the final regular-season game of the year tied atop the GLIAC North Division standings as the Bulldogs are presently 20-10 overall and 12-7 in league play. FSU is tied with Parkside in the division and can either claim a share or win the divisional title outright for the third-straight year with a victory over LSSU.

Earlier this year, the Bulldogs beat the Lakers 97-76 inside Jim Wink Arena and the league matchup has been one of the GLIAC's best rivalries on the hardwood in recent years. The Bulldogs hold a 85-57 lead heading into Thursday's 143rd all-time meeting versus LSSU. The Bulldogs have won 21 of the last 37 series' matchups overall. The two foes have also been the dominant programs in the GLIAC North in recent memory as they have combined to win six of the last seven league titles.

Lake Superior State, which handed FSU its only setback a year ago before the Bulldogs responded with three wins over the Lakers en route to a 38-1 national championship season, is currently 14-11 overall and tied for fifth place in the league standings at 10-9 heading into Thursday's tilt.

The Bulldog women have clinched a spot in the GLIAC Tournament and can secure the #5 overall seed for the league tourney by beating the Lakers on Thursday. FSU won back-to-back league road games last weekend and is currently 13-12 overall and 10-9 in league play. Lake Superior State holds a 8-18 mark and is 3-16 in conference action.

Earlier this year, Ferris State beat LSSU on the women's side as well 62-46 in Big Rapids on Jan. 26.

The 2019 GLIAC Tournament begins with the top four teams hosting quarterfinal-round action on Tuesday, March 5. The top remaining seed will then host the GLIAC Semifinals and Finals on Saturday and Sunday, March 9-10.

The FSU men's team has secured a quarterfinal-round home game and will host an opponent to be determined on Tuesday at 7 p.m. (ET) while the women's squad will be on the road for round one. Official matchups will be announced by the GLIAC office after the regular-season finales on Thursday night.
