Ferris State Still Seventh This Week In D2 Midwest Regional Basketball Rankings

Big Rapids, Mich. - The defending national champion Ferris State University men's basketball squad remains ranked as one of the region's top eight teams in this week's NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Rankings, which were announced today (Feb. 27).

The Bulldogs, who currently are tied atop the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division standings, are ranked seventh overall in the region for the second consecutive week heading into this week's final regular-season action.

In this week's poll, Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) member Lewis (Ill.) is now ranked first after beating previous number one Bellarmine (Ky.) last week. The Knights dropped to second with current Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) leader Findlay remaining at number three overall. Meanwhile, Southern Indiana climbed to fourth, Ashland is now fifth and Indianapolis stayed at sixth in front of FSU.

Behind Ferris State, the remaining teams in the regional listing include Hillsdale (#8), Northern Michigan (#9) and Drury (#10).

The top eight teams at the end of the season will earn berths into the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional set for March 16-19 at a campus site to be determined. The winner of all three conference tournaments (GLIAC, GLVC, G-MAC) will earn an automatic bid with the number one team in the region likely to host the Midwest Regional Tournament in March.

Ferris State has made 13 previous NCAA Tournament appearances, including each of the past four seasons to date. The Bulldogs reached the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship Game and the Sweet Sixteen of the national tournament three years ago before making another regional semifinal appearance in 2017. Last year, the Bulldogs claimed their first national championship while finishing with all-time NCAA best 38-1 overall record after winning the Midwest Regional on their home floor at Jim Wink Arena.

Presently, the Bulldogs own a 20-10 overall record to date this year and are 12-7 in the GLIAC. FSU is tied with Wisconsin-Parkside for first place in the division and can claim at least a share of a third-straight divisional crown with a victory in the regular-season finale.

Ferris State will play its final regular-season game on the road at league rival Lake Superior State on Thursday (Feb. 28) night in Sault Ste. Marie. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. (ET) and the game can be heard live on Sunny 97.3 FM or online at FerrisStateBulldogs.com on the Bulldog Sports Network.
