Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad begins its chase for a fifth consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Championship at home on Tuesday (March 5) night as the Bulldogs take on the Northern Michigan Wildcats inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

Meanwhile, NMU heads into the quarterfinal round with a 16-11 overall record and tied for third in the GLIAC North with an 11-9 league mark under former FSU head coach Bill Sall.

This season, Ferris State won both regular-season matchups, beating the Wildcats 62-59 on a late three-pointer on Jan. 12 in Marquette before scoring a 78-67 victory at home inside Wink Arena on Feb. 14.

Four quarterfinal-round games will be played on Tuesday with the winners advancing to the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals and Finals on Saturday and Sunday, March 9-10. As the number one seed, Davenport would host the league final four next weekend with a quarterfinal-round victory.

The winner of the GLIAC Tournament receives an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament slated to be held March 16-19 at a campus site yet to be determined.

A year ago, Ferris State captured its second-straight league tournament title on its home floor as the Bulldogs began postseason play with three-straight GLIAC Tournament wins inside Wink Arena en route to a historic 38-1 national championship campaign. The Bulldogs will be making their fifth-straight GLIAC Tournament appearance this year.

The other first-round matchups in the GLIAC Tournament on Wednesday include top-seeded Davenport hosting eighth-seeded Northwood, third-seeded Parkside playing host to sixth-seeded Lake Superior State along with second-seeded Ashland hosting seventh-seeded Grand Valley State. As the number one seed, Davenport would host the GLIAC Semifinals and Finals in men's basketball next Saturday and Sunday (March 9-10) with a first-round win.

This year will represent FSU's 19th overall GLIAC Tournament appearance. The Bulldogs made their 18th conference tourney appearance last year, including the 12th in the last 14 years, and won a fourth-straight league postseason crown. FSU is now 22-16 all-time in league tourney action. Prior to the last four years, FSU previously reached the GLIAC Tournament Championship game as the host institution in 2011 before dropping a 73-71 buzzer beater to Wayne State at Wink Arena. Ferris captured the 1997-98 league tourney title, which was its only previous GLIAC Tourney crown in school history before the past four years.
