Ferris State Wraps Up 2018-19 Campaign With Fifth-Straight 20-Plus Win Season

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad wrapped up its 2018-19 slate with the program's fifth consecutive 20-win campaign as the Bulldogs narrowly missed receiving the program's fifth-straight NCAA Division II Tournament berth when the national organization unveiled its postseason selections in a live online announcement on Sunday evening.

The Bulldogs had been seventh in the final regular-season NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Rankings announced this past week following the conclusion of the regular-season. A total of eight teams were chosen for the regional field.

This season, following a historic 2017-18 season in which FSU went 38-1 overall and won the school's first NCAA Division II National Championship, the Bulldogs compiled a 20-12 overall record under head coach Andy Bronkema while notching its fifth-straight 20-win campaign. The Bulldogs placed second in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division standings.

Along with the second-place league finish, the Bulldogs also reached the GLIAC Tournament for the fifth consecutive year and earned the right to host a quarterfinal-round home contest. Overall, FSU went 12-3 at home this season inside Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs had a pair of All-GLIAC choices in senior guard DeShaun Thrower (Muskegon) and senior forward Markese Mayfield (Grand Rapids/Godwin Heights) while both Mayfield along with sophomore wing Jaylin McFadden (Detroit/East English Village) were tabbed to the GLIAC All-Defensive Team announced this past weekend.

A total of 12 of the Bulldogs' 16 squad members are eligible to return for the 2019-20 season as FSU had only four seniors this season.

The past five years with 20 or more wins ranks as the greatest five-year stretch in program history.
