Bulldogs Topple Tenth-Ranked Eagles On Hot Shooting Night

Big Rapids, Mich. - In a nationally-ranked battle between the #10 ranked Ashland Eagles and #23 ranked Ferris State University men's basketball team, the Bulldogs heated up to hit more than 50 percent of their three-point tries to topple the Eagles 94-70 inside Jim Wink Arena to stay unbeaten in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Saturday (Dec. 7).

Ferris State junior guard Walt Kelser shot six of nine from beyond the arc and 11-16 on the night for a game-high 29 points in the win over Ashland. FSU senior forward Cole Walker added 14 points, 12 of which came on three-point tries (4-7 shooting from beyond the arc).

The Bulldogs dashed in front to a 20-point lead at the half, scoring 51 points on 55.9 percent shooting from the floor in the opening frame. The Bulldogs held the Eagles to 37.5 percent shooting and just nine made field goals in the first 20 minutes.

On the night, Ferris State finished shooting 54.7 percent to Ashland's 37.3. Ferris State made 17 three-point tries on 31 attempts (54.8 percent) while Ashland hit just 3-23 (13.0 percent) on the night.

For the second straight GLIAC game, the Bulldog bench outscored the opponent bench by double digits, with a 29-12 edge over the Eagles.

Ferris State junior wing Dorian Aluyi added 10 points for the Bulldogs. Off the bench, senior guard Greg Williams picked up nine points. Ferris State senior guard D'angelo Hughes finished with a game-best eight assists out of Ferris State's 30 on the night. The Eagles finished with just 11 assists in the game.

On the glass, junior wing Michael Peterson finished with a game-best nine rebounds off the bench. 

For the Eagles, four of their five starters finished in double-digit scoring, with Drew Noble leading the way with 17 points, including 9-10 free throw shooting. The Eagles won the battle at the glass with 40 rebounds to Ferris State's 31 for the night.

Ashland had 23 points on free throws on 31 attempts while the Bulldogs only made it to the line for 10 shots, hitting seven in the process.

The Bulldogs, now 12-1 overall this season, head next to Lake Superior State to take on the Lakers on Saturday (Dec. 14) at 3 p.m. (ET).
