Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad put together a furious comeback again, but could not pull out the win as Northwood registered a 87-81 triumph over the Bulldogs in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action on Saturday (Feb. 8) afternoon inside Jim Wink Arena.

The 17th-ranked Bulldogs trailed by 16 points with 16 minutes to go, but erased the deficit in a four-minute span and eventually took the lead before the Timberwolves responded down the stretch. The game went back and forth with 11 lead changes and FSU had a couple of late opportunities to pull out the win in the closing seconds, but NU held on for the road decision.

Despite the setback, Ferris State, which is now 22-5 overall and 11-4 in league play, still sits atop the GLIAC North Division with five games to go in the regular-season.

Junior guard Walt Kelser led FSU with a team-high 29 points and went 11-of-12 from the free throw line, but Northwood got a game-high 32 points from Jack Ammerman, who finished six-of-nine from three-point range.

Along with Kelser, the Bulldogs received 13 points from senior guard D'angelo Hughes with junior forward Dorian Aluyi adding 10 points and senior center Cole Walker contributing nine points.

Ferris State shot 50.9% from the floor and went nine-of-18 (50%) from three-point range along with 18-of-19 (94.7%) at the free throw stripe. However, the Timberwolves put together a 58.2% shooting performance and NU connected on nine-of-23 (39.1%) three's in addition to 14-of-20 (70%) free throws.

Along with Ammerman, the Timberwolves got 16 points from Trey McBride along with 15 by Danny Kolp and 12 from David Jelinek.

Ferris State was outrebounded 31-22 overall and Northwood grabbed eight offensive boards to only four for the Bulldogs. The Timberwolves also outscored FSU 29-22 in points off turnovers despite totaling 18 to 16 for Ferris State in the game.

The Bulldogs did finish with 12 steals and four blocked shots in comparison to NU's 11 thefts and five blocks. FSU also had 17 assists with four different players totaling four each.

The Bulldogs will host Michigan Tech as their four-game homestand continues on Thursday, Feb. 13, with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. (ET) inside Jim Wink Arena. The Huskies are only a game behind FSU atop the GLIAC North Division following this week's action.
