Ferris State's Walt Kelser Garners NABC All-District Kudos

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University men's basketball junior guard Walt Kelser (Southfield) has been named to the 2020 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-Midwest District Basketball squad.

Kelser, who previously was a Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-Midwest Region Second Team honoree, also garnered second-team regional recognition in the all-district voting process from the NABC. He was one of five student-athletes tabbed to the second team in voting by head coaches from across the region.

Overall, Kelser was one of only four players from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) named to either of the all-district squads.

In his first season on the floor for FSU, Kelser helped lead the Bulldogs to the GLIAC Championship and an NCAA Division II Tournament appearance. The Bulldogs closed the year with a 27-6 overall record and earned their third league title in the past four seasons while receiving their fifth NCAA Tournament bid in the last six years.

Kelser ranked among the GLIAC leaders with a team-high 17.6 points per game scoring average this season. He made 33 starts for the Bulldogs and finished with 28 double-figure scoring performances, including three games of 30 points or more this season.

About the National Association of Basketball Coaches

Located in Kansas City, MO, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Forrest "Phog" Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas.  Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game.  The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches.  All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes.  The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education.  Additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, can be found at www.nabc.org.
