Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University men's basketball senior guard Walt Kelser (Southfield) has been named to the 2021 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-Midwest District Basketball squad.

Kelser garnered second-team regional recognition in the all-district voting process from the NABC for the second consecutive year. He was one of five student-athletes tabbed to the second team in voting by head coaches from across the region.

Overall, Kelser was one of six players from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) named to either of the all-district squads.

Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC in NCAA Division II, the 89 student-athletes named to one of the eight all-district teams represent the finest basketball players across America.

This season, Kelser was tabbed to the All-GLIAC First Team for the second consecutive season in voting by the league's member head coaches. Kelser led the GLIAC in scoring at 20.6 points per game in the regular-season, totaling 16 double-figure scoring contests in 18 outings for the Bulldogs. The veteran standout scored 30 points or more three times, including a season-high 39 points in an 87-69 road win at Parkside on Jan. 16 in Wisconsin.

Overall, Kelser produced 20 points or more in nine games this year for FSU, which reached the GLIAC Tournament for the seventh consecutive season before falling to Ashland in the quarterfinal-round in Hammond, Ind.

A year ago, Kelser went on to also receive Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-Midwest Region laurels along with also being named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-Midwest District squad.

About the National Association of Basketball Coaches

Located in Kansas City, MO, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Forrest "Phog" Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas.  Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game.  The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches.  All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes.  The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service, education and inclusion.  Additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, can be found at www.nabc.com.
