Ferris State Suffers GLIAC Road Setback To Lakers In Allendale

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball team suffered a 94-62 setback to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) rival Grand Valley State on Saturday (Feb. 8) inside the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale.

The host Lakers held FSU to 31.9% shooting overall en route to the win, splitting the league regular-season series between the two schools with the triumph.

Grand Valley State bolted in front early and led 45-28 at halftime before outscoring Ferris State by a 49-34 count in the second half before a large crowd.

Overall, the Lakers shot 46% from the floor and went 11-of-26 (42.3%) from the three-point arc in addition to converting 25-of-30 (83.3%) free throws. Grand Valley State also owned a 50-35 edge on the glass and outscored Ferris State 19-12 in points off turnovers and 30-24 inside the paint.

The Bulldogs made eight-of-28 (28.6%) three-point tries and were 10-of-14 (71.4%) at the free throw line, making 15 less free throws than Grand Valley State.

The Lakers had four players reach double-figure scoring and were led by Trevor Smith, Jr., with 17 points. Meanwhile, no Bulldog player reached double-digits as senior Reece Hazelton scored a team-high nine points for FSU.

Grand Valley State never trailed in the game and improved to 12-10 overall this year. The Bulldogs dropped to 20-5 overall and 10-4 in GLIAC play,

Ferris State will head to Michigan's Upper Peninsula next week for matchups on Thursday (Feb. 13) at Michigan Tech starting at 7:30 p.m. (ET) and on Saturday (Feb. 15) at Northern Michigan beginning at 3 p.m. (ET).
