Ferris State Men's Golf Announces 2009-10 Team Awards

Senior Eric Lilleboe (Okemos/Lansing Catholic Central) of the nationally-ranked Ferris State University men's golf team has been selected as the Most Valuable Player for the 2009-10 season in an announcement made by third-year head coach Mike Mignano.

Joining Lilleboe as team award recipients while senior Kurt Valley (Bay City/Western) and sophomore Scott Schuitema (Muskegon/Catholic Central), who were named winners of the Bulldog Award and Most Improved Player Award, respectively.  The Bulldog Award is given to a deserving team member who demonstrates the most dedication and hard work throughout the season. 

Lilleboe, a 2009-10 Division II Men's Golf PING All-America First-Team honoree, paced the 24th-tying ranked Bulldogs with a career single-season best 73.00 stroke average (2,409 total strokes) this season in 33 rounds.  The two-time (2008-09 and 2009-10) PING All-Midwest Region pick was also honored as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) Men's Golf "Athlete of the Year" for the 2009-10 season.  This campaign, Lilleboe compiled 11 top 20-place finishes with seven being among the top five placings.  He was also recognized as the GLIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week four times (Sept. 15, 22, 29 and Oct. 7) in the 2009-10 season.  A three-time (2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10) All-GLIAC First-Team performer, Lilleboe attained the GLIAC Men's Golf "Athlete of the Year" in the 2007-08 season.   

A season ago (2008-09), Lilleboe shared team Most Valuable Player Award laurels with Kurt Valley after earning the award following the 2007-08 campaign.  Lilleboe concluded his four-year (2006-10) career at Ferris State averaging 73.67 strokes a round (7,588 total strokes) in 103 rounds.  He accumulated 29 top 10-place performances for his career, highlighted by 18 among the top-five finishers.

Valley, a 2009-10 Division II PING All-Midwest Region Team member, registered a 74.82 stroke average (2,469 total strokes) in 33 rounds for the 2009-10 season.  The two-time (2008-09 and 2009-10) first-team All-GLIAC selection produced nine top-20 place efforts, which featured five top-five place performances.  The 2007-08 all-conference honorable mention pick wrapped up his four-year (2006-10) with a 74.67 stroke average (9,409 total strokes) in 126 rounds.  Valley, the 2007-08 recipient of the team's Bulldog Award, racked up 30 top-20 place outings and had 13 of those within the top five.

Schuitema posted an 80.67 stroke average (242 total strokes) in three rounds this season.  He tallied a 59th-place tying 242 score at the three-round Ferris State Matt Pinter Invitational (Sept. 26-27) in his lone action of the 2009-10 campaign. 

Ferris State registered a program record seventh-place tying showing at the 2010 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships (May 18-21) in Noblesville, Ind., in what marked the Bulldogs' 14th all-time national tournament appearance.  FSU placed second or higher in eight of its 12 2009-10 season tournaments.
