Ferris State Set For NCAA Men's Golf Championships

The 2009-10 Ferris State University men's golf team is making its final preparations for the national stage as the Bulldogs open play at the 2010 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships this Tuesday (May 18) morning at The Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind.

The 72-hole national tournament will be held from May 18-21 and admission is free.  The tourney is being hosted by the University of Indianapolis, Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), Hamilton County Sports Authority, and the Indiana Sports Corporation. 

A total of 108 golfers comprised of 20 teams and an additional eight individuals will tee off on Tuesday (May 18).  Ferris State is slated for an 8:20 a.m. (EDT) teeoff for the first round and a 12:50 p.m. (EDT) in the second round. 

Ferris State, which is set to make its second consecutive national tournament appearance and the 14th all-time in the program's history, earned a trip to nationals by claiming third place at the NCAA-II Midwest/South Central Regional (May 3-5) in Duncan, Okla.  The Bulldogs, under third-year head coach Mike Mignano, registered a three-round 908 team score (+44) in the regional tournament.

This season, Ferris State has placed third or higher in nine of its 11 tournaments.  The Bulldogs have either captured or tied for top team honors in four tournaments - Saginaw Valley State Al Watrous Intercollegiate Invitational (Sept. 12-13), Ferris State Matt Pinter Invitational (Sept. 26-27), Wayne State Motor City Invitational (Oct. 11-12), and Michigan State Fossum/Spartan Invitational (April 24-25). 

Competing for the Bulldogs will be seniors Eric Lilleboe (Okemos/Lansing Catholic Central), Kurt Valley (Bay City/Western), and Craig Burrows (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Olmstead Falls) along with juniors Joe Brown (St. Ignace/LaSalle) and Garrett Simons (Grand Ledge).

A season ago (May 19-22), Ferris State recorded a school-record best tying eighth-place finish with a 1,196 stroke total (303-294-301-298=1,196 - +60) at the 2009 NCAA-II Championships in Blaine, Wash.
