Bulldogs Finish Tied For Seventh At The Arendsen

The nationally 18th-ranked Ferris State University mens' golf team placed tied for seventh place at Grand Valley State's The Arendsen Tournament this weekend (Sept. 25-26) as the Bulldogs recorded a two-round 622 team score among the 11 teams competing in Allendale, Mich.

The Bulldogs started out with a 307 score in Saturday's (Sept. 25) opening round and then shot a 315 round in Sunday's (Sept. 26) play on the par 72, 7,060-yard The Meadows Golf Course on the GVSU campus.  Findlay won the tournament by tallying a nine-over 585 score with Grand Valley State finishing three strokes behind at 588 (+12).

Ferris State and Grand Rapids (Mich.) Community College both tied for seventh with 622-stroke totals (+46) to place three strokes in front of Northwood's 625 score (+49).   

Paving the way for Ferris State was senior Kyle Wittenbach (Lowell), who netted a 152 score (74-78=152, +8) to earn a share of 17th-place honors with Grand Rapids Community College's Alex Fleming (152, +8).  Joe McGeean of Findlay garnered medalist recognition by firing a first-place six-under par 138-stroke total.

Junior Ian Straayer (Caledonia/Grandville) produced a 154 score (77-77=154, +10) and was among six individuals to tie for 23rd place.  Senior Garrett Simons' (Grand Ledge) 158-stroke total (77-81=158, +14) matched freshman Trent Davison (Rockford), who also tallied a 158 (79-79=158, +14) as the two Bulldogs captured 35th-place tying accolades.

Senior Joe Brown (St. Ignace/LaSalle) wound up in a two-way tie for 71st place as a result of carding a 170 score (85-85=170, +26).

Competing in a non-scoring capacity, sophomore Tyler Robinson (Haslett) produced a 157 (76-81=157, +13) en route to a 32nd-place tying performance.  Junior Gary Bissell (East Lansing/Haslett), who also participated as a non scorer, placed in a 46th tie after turning in a 159 score (79-80=159, +15).  Senior Richard Weisenberger (New Hudson/South Lyon) also earned a share of 46th place following a 159-stroke total (76-83=159, +15).

The Bulldogs are back on the links next weekend, Oct. 3-4, to compete in the 2010 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Golf Championships at the Grosse Ile (Mich.) Golf and Country Club.
