Ferris State Men's Golf Finishes Fifth At Detroit Titans Invitational

Ferris State shot a final round team best score of 308 this Saturday (April 16) to earn fifth at the seven-team Detroit Titans Invitational held at the par 72, 7,142-yard Prestwick Village Country Club in Highland, Mich.

The Bulldogs' 54-hole total of 937 (+73) came on rounds of 312, 317, and 308.  Ferris State finished nine strokes behind Youngstown State (928, +64) for fourth place.  Host Detroit Mercy captured the tournament championship by carding a three-round 895-stroke total (+31).

Senior Garrett Simons (Grand Ledge) led the Ferris State charge for the second consecutive tournament with a 10th-place tying 229 score (76-76-77=229, +13).  Simons, a 2009-10 All-GLIAC First-Team selection, has been the Bulldogs' top performer in three of their four spring tournaments to date.

Freshman Trent Davison (Rockford) turned in his best three-round score of this season with a 230 score (77-80-73=230, +14), which proved deserving of a three-way tie for 12th place.  Davison's previous 54-hole best was 234 at the 2010 GLIAC Championships (Oct. 3-4).

Claiming a share of 23rd-place honors was senior Kyle Wittenbach (Lowell), who fired a 237-stroke total (81-79-77=237, +21).  Junior Ian Straayer (Caledonia/Grandville) shot a 243 (78-84-81=243, +27) to earn a tie for 33rd place and senior Joe Brown (St. Ignace/LaSalle) registered a 41st-place 252 score (87-82-83=252, +36).

Ferris State is back on the course next weekend, April 22-23, for the GLIAC Preview Tournament at Lansing, Mich.
