FSU Men's Golf Earns NCAA-II Tourney Bid

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team will be making its ninth NCAA Regional appearance in a row as the Bulldogs have earned a trip to Kentucky for the 2011 Midwest/South Central Super Regional, which will take place May 2-4 at The Cherry Blossom Golf Club in Georgetown, Ky.
The announcement of 80 teams and 32 individual student-athletes for regional competition was released Saturday (April 23) by the NCAA-II Men's Golf Selection Committee.
The Midwest/South Central Regional is being hosted by Northern Kentucky University and will consist of 10 teams from the Midwest Region along with 10 from the South Central Region. Four individuals from each region will also compete in the 54-hole tournament.
The top five teams and the top two individuals not affiliated with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the 2011 NCAA-II Men's Golf Championships slated for May 16-20 at The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at The Shoals in Florence, Ala.
Along with number eight seed Ferris State, those teams from the Midwest Region who will be making the super regional tourney appearance are top-seeded Indianapolis, Missouri-St. Louis, Drury (Mo.), Grand Valley State, Wayne State, Ashland, Northern Kentucky, Bellarmine (Ky.) and Lewis (Ill.) in respective seeding order. Central Oklahoma is the South Central Region's top seed.
Ferris State, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Mike Mignano, posted a third-place performance at the 2010 NCAA-II Midwest/South Central Super Regional (May 3-5) in Duncan, Okla. The placing was high enough for the Bulldogs to make their 14th appearance at nationals in the program's history as FSU would register a school-best effort by tying for seventh place in the 2010 NCAA-II National Championships (May 18-21) in Noblesville, Ind.
Ferris State, which captured the program's 19th GLIAC Championship title last fall (Oct. 3-4) with a playoff win after recording a three-round 889 team stroke total, placed sixth or better in four of its six fall tournaments this campaign. The Bulldogs also have a pair of top five tourney finishes to date this spring.
