Ferris Men's Golf Fourth In GLIAC Preview

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team placed fourth in the GLIAC Championship Preview Invitational held on Saturday (April 23) at Eagle Eye Golf Course in Bath, Mich.

The 10-team invitational was hosted by the Bulldogs on the par 72 course measuring 7,117 yards.

Grand Valley State brought home the team championship with an 18-over par total of 306.  The University of Findlay was second (309) with Ashland third (311) and Ferris State fourth (314).  The Bulldogs were 26 strokes over par and only eight strokes off of the Lakers' title pace.

Individually, Grand Valley State's Nick Gunthorpe carded a three-under 69 score to win medalist honors. 

Ferris State was paced by junior Ian Straayer, who tied for sixth overall with a 76 (+4).  Senior Garrett Simons tied for 10th at five-over par (77) with Greg Meisner carding an eight-over score of 80 to tie for 21st place.

Senior Kyle Wittenbach came in tied for 25th at 81 (+9) and Richard Weisenberger finished tied for 34th (82,+10).  Trent Davison tied for 38th with an 11-over 83 followed by senior Joe Brown in a tie for 51st at 85 (+13).

The Bulldog men's team will compete in the 2011 Midwest/South Central Super Regional from May 2-4 at The Cherry Blossom Golf Club in Georgetown, Ky.
