Senior Garrett Simons (Grand Ledge) of the Ferris State University men's golf team has been tabbed as this week's (April 13) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Golf "Athlete of the Week" in an announcement made this Wednesday (April 13) by the conference office.

Simons helped lead Ferris State to a third-place finish at the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Tournament III this past weekend (April 10-11) at Noblesville, Ind., by carding a one-under and season-best 143-stroke total (71-72=143).  With his two-round score, the 2010-11 FSU co-captain tied for second-place honors and two strokes in back of the tournament medalist as the Bulldogs generated a 597 team score (295-302=597).  Simons' 143-stroke total bettered his two-round 147 score set earlier this season (Oct. 18-19) at the Great Lakes Region Invitational II Tournament.

This season, Simons is presently averaging a team second-best 75.75 strokes (1,515 total strokes) in 20 rounds while registering four top-20 place finishes, including two among the top 10 individuals.  He has been the Bulldogs' top performer in two tournaments this season - at North Alabama Classic (March 28-29) and at the Great Lakes Region Tournament III (April 10-11).

A 2009-10 All-GLIAC First-Team selection, Simons has currently posted 75.47 strokes average (4,981 total strokes) in 66 career rounds.  The 2008-09 FSU Men's Golf Bulldog Award recipient has amassed 12 top-20 place career finishes and seven have been within the top 10.
